The police have booked a case against Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel based on a complaint that he was having an extra-marital affair with a woman.
In a complaint registered with the Mangalore North police on Monday, the woman’s husband and complainant, Satish Shetty, said that he was living in Mumbai, while his wife was in Mangalore. The couple have two children and they are with his wife. Mr. Shetty has filed a petition before court seeking custody of his two children.
However, denying the allegations made in the complaint, Mr. Kateel told The Hindu from Bangalore that the complaint has been made to malign his image.
Mr. Kateel said that he filed a police complaint on April 21 in which he had mentioned that a few persons were trying to defame him. “The same persons are now behind this complaint,” he said.
Mr. Kateel said that he is ready for an investigation. “I am contemplating legal action against those trying to defame me,” he said.
In his two-page complaint, Mr. Shetty has accused Mr. Kateel of befriending his wife and spending time with her at a few hotels in Mangalore and Bangalore. Mr. Shetty has alleged that on May 11 a few persons waylaid him at a mall and threatened him.
The Mangalore North Police have registered the case against Mr. Kateel, the woman and three others.
The police have also sought from Mr. Shetty evidence, if any, supporting his allegations.
