Mangalore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) will clear applications for approval of single-site layouts within 15 days.
MUDA Chairman Ramesh S. told presspersons here on Saturday that he had ensured clearance of over 1,500 files related to single-site layouts after he assumed charge two months ago. “75 per cent of single-site applications have been cleared,” he said.
Mr. Ramesh said applications would be disposed of in the order in which they had been submitted. On any punitive measure against officials responsible for failing to meet the target of 15 days, he said he was making sincere efforts to deliver goods on time.
He said: “You know our administration system. We are trying our best. We will set a good example.” He hastened to add that MUDA faced staff shortage and he would pressure the government to help it overcome the problem. However, he maintained that people could call up MUDA officials for a “patient” answer on the status of their files.
The MUDA Chairman said tenants and owners of buildings on the periphery of the open space used earlier as bus-stand at Hampanakatta Circle – presently being used as a vehicle parking zone – had agreed to part with their land and buildings for the proposed multi-level car parking facility.
Mr. Ramesh said tenders would be invited for a public-private-partnership project aimed at accommodating around 1,000 cars. The project implementation would begin within six months. The tenants and owners of buildings would be given space in the building to resume their business,” he said.
He said more car parking zones were being planned at Kankanady, Surathkal, and Urwa Store.
He said MUDA was acquiring 200 acres of land at Surathkal to develop 3,000 residential sites. The layout development would begin by August and completed in four months thereafter.
Mr. Ramesh said MUDA was clearing layouts in single sites up to 1,600 sq ft even if they had small approaches to the nearest road.
He had heard that the Mangalore City Corporation was not approving buildings on such land and was insisting on wider roads.
He would take it up with the corporation authorities to ensure that the provisions of the Master Plan 2021, which was under implementation now, prevailed. Sites bigger than 1,600 sq ft should have 20 ft approach roads, he said.
