The Karavali Karnataka Janabhivruddhi Vedike has urged N. Yogish Bhat, MLA, to get job guarantee letters from Mangalore Special Economic Zone Ltd. (MSEZL) for members of the displaced families now undergoing training at the Karnataka Polytechnic here.

In an “open letter” to Mr. Bhat, coordinators of the vedike, Madhukar Amin and Sampath Kumar Shetty, said that he should bring pressure on the MSEZ in this regard as the State Government was a partner of the project, having acquired the land through the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board.

It was the duty of MSEZL to provide jobs for the trainees at Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd. (MRPL), as promised by the former to the displaced families during the meetings with elected representatives and the Deputy Commissioner in 2006 and 2007.

Since MRPL was not bound by the orders of the State Government, Mr. Bhat should bring pressure on it from the Centre. As leaders from the district and the State were influential Ministers at the Centre and had supported the MSEZ project, Mr. Bhat could remind them of their responsibility towards helping the displaced families.

They have urged Mr. Bhat to write to the State Government for de-notifying the 2,035 acres of land already notified for the second phase of MSEZ in order to avoid displacement of more families.
