Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP, has demanded more ticket counters at the Mangalore Central Railway Station.
Mr. Kateel, who visited the railway station, along with member of the Consultative Committee of the Palakkad Division of Southern Railway Jayaram Rai and the Bharatiya Janata Party district unit vice-president, Nithin Kumar, said tickets were being issued only in a couple of counters, while many others remained closed always. As a result, people had to wait in long queues to buy tickets. In many cases, they were forced to wait for hours, he said.

In a press release, Mr. Kateel said that many people were finding it difficult to get information in the absence Kannada-speaking staff. He demanded that people who knew Kannada be posted at the enquiry counter.
He alleged that there was no response to telephone calls made to the reservation counters. He had found that the personnel at the reservation counters had to attend the telephone calls as well. This was causing delay in attending to the commuters in the queueand sought a separate enquiry counter to be set up at the railway station.
He pointed out that there were no platform ticket-vending machines at the station. As a result, people were forced to wait in long queues before the train ticket booking counters. He sought immediate installation of such machines.
He said he would use his office in solving these problems.
