While a Class 5 student reads the chapter on matter, he can see an illustration showing how matter occupies space. There is a drawing explaining how the water-level in a jar increases when a stone is dipped into it.
Just after the illustration, there is a sign of a video camera. Clicking on this icon, you see a video showing how the water-level in a glass increases after three small balls are thrown into it.
If you move down further there is another video demonstrating how air occupies space.
These are among many features of the learning material in science and social science developed by VidhyaSangam, a Bengaluru-based firm, for students of Classes 5 to 10 studying in the State syllabus. This can be accessed on the website www.vidhyasangam.com.
A.M. Nagabhushana, chief executive officer of Vidhyasangam, said while students in CBSE schools had good resources online for learning, it was not the case with students in the State syllabus.
The firm developed a digital learning solution that would make students play and learn. Teachers could use this content to make children understand subjects in a better way. This digital learning solution has been developed jointly by Mr. Nagabhushana and Lenin Fernandes.
“We have contextualised the information and presented it to students.”
For instance, there are three videos related to history, personalities and lifestyle of Bengaluru that can be viewed in the chapter “All round Us (Bengaluru Division)”.
A video showing the complete digestive process can be seen in the chapter related to digestive system in the science text for Class 6.
Mr. Nagabhushan, an alumnus of IIT Bombay, said that he had received inputs from his classmates in engineering and from IIT Bombay, where he did his postgraduate studies. Mr. Nagabhushan said the learning solution was being offered for free as of now.
