Minister Rai involved in shoe controversy

July 09, 2014 11:18 am | Updated 11:18 am IST - MANGALORE:

A Mangalore-based news website has reported that Minister for Forests, Environment and Ecology Ramanath Rai got his personal assistant to hold his shoes and put them on his feet at a private function here.

It has also published a video of the incident. One segment of the video shows the Minister handing over a pair of black shoes to a person (described as Mr. Rai’s personal assistant). Subsequently the video shows a person helping the Minister put on his shoe. The website says the video was captured by its crew.

Meanwhile the Minister said the shoes were taken away by a “person who stays with us in my house” not a personal assistant. He said he had to remove his shoes for a book release function on Saturday. When he wanted to wear them they were not there. “Probably, ‘our man’ had taken them away and brought them back to me. It is not a big issue,” he said.
