The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) has fixed the minimum autorickshaw fare at Rs. 23 for a distance of 1.5 km, which is Rs. 3 more than what had been fixed earlier.

In a press release, Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim, who heads the RTA, said beyond 1.5 km passenger has to pay Rs. 13 per km. No charges will be collected for wait time of 15 minutes, but passengers have to pay 25 per cent of the total fare for the next 45 minutes of wait.

There will be no luggage charges for the first 20 kg, but every additional weight will be charged at Rs. 2 per kg. Drivers can collect one-and-a-half times the charge displayed on the meter between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Mr. Ibrahim has asked autorickshaw drivers to display the fare chart prominently in vehicles. The drivers also have to display their permits with photograph and make use of digital fare meters.
