People participated enthusiastically in the mass contact programme jointly organised by the District Police, District Administration and the Department of Forests here on Tuesday.
As the two-hour long question and answer session was coming to an end, some people demanded that the programme be extended for one more hour.
Some even pointed out to the authorities that they had come to the mass contact programme setting aside all their work and undertaking more than an hour's journey from their villages braving heavy rains. While some said that there had been little progress since the last mass contact programme, some others praised a few officers for their sincerity.
Rohan, a resident of Andar, said that though a police station had been set up by the Government at Ajekar village to check naxalite activities, the condition had been left a lot to be desired.
The police station should be housed in a good building and police personnel should be provided with staff quarters, he said.
IGP (Western Range) Alok Mohan said that land had been sanctioned by the Government for the police station and the staff quarters.
The construction would start shortly, he said.
Ashok Shetty from Nadpal said that the police personnel should behave in a polite manner while dealing with atrocity cases.
Mr. Mohan and Superintendent of Police Y.S. Ravikumar said that such errant behaviour of police personnel could be brought to the notice of senior officers.
Ravindra from Andar said that Gram Panchayats ran shot of funds and were not able to take up developmental activities.
More funds should be provided to them. It was also difficult to get licences for guns to tackle the menace of wild animals, he said.
