Medical practitioner accused of rape

The city police have registered a case against a medical practitioner on the charge of raping one of his patients on January 8. According to the police, Preetham, who has a clinic at Karangalpadi, allegedly summoned the 20 year-old victim, a resident of Bantwal, to his house on the pretext of a medical examination. However, she was allegedly raped at his residence, the police said.

Though the incident occurred on January 8, a complaint was filed with the Women’s Police Station, Pandeshwar, on January 23, said K. Kalavathi, police inspector. The investigation has been handed over to Assistant Commissioner of Police (Central) K. Tilakchandra.

Stone throwing:

The district police have registered two separate cases regarding the throwing of stones late on Friday night at places of prayer near Mani and Bantwal in the district.

Unidentified persons reportedly threw stones at a place of prayer at Surikumeru near Mani and they also tore a banner of an organiation. A complaint in this regard has been registered with the Vitla police.

Similarly, stones were reportedly thrown at another place of prayer at Neerapade in Bantwal Town Police limits and a case was registered by the police in this regard.

Superintendent of Police D.S. Sharanappa said no damage to property had been reported.

Illegal sand lifting stopped

The Department of Mines and Geology stopped illegal sand lifting on the Phalguni at Kelagina Kere, Addor village, in Mangaluru taluk on Sunday.

K.S. Nagendrappa, Deputy Director (in-charge) of the department, said that Mohammed Iqbal had begun lifting sand illegally using a machine on Saturday night. He Mr. Nagendrappa visited the spot on Sunday and got the machine removed and Mr. Iqbal was fined Rs. 10,000.
