While it is usually the police who are under fire during the monthly Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes meetings, on Sunday, during one such meeting at the Police Commissioner’s Office, the media received some lashing as a Dalit activist said certain reports on rapes traumatised victims further.

Dalit leader Krishnappa Konchady said that in few papers had revealed the identity of the Dalit girl who had been sexually assaulted in Vamanjoor recently. “This just causes more agony to the victim as this just spreads the word of her disgrace,” he said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) D. Dharmaiah directed the media to refrain from publishing revealing details, while also urging for a discussion among journalists on this issue.
