MCC:13 illegal tap connections spotted

Deputy Commissioner (Development) of Mangalore City Corporation said that officials of the civic body have detected illegal tap connections at 13 places along the main water supply lines from Thumbe to the city.

It has resulted in 40 per cent decrease in the supply of water to the city. The corporation would file criminal cases against violators if they failed to snap connection on their own, the official said.

Illegal connections have been found at Adyar Berpugudde, Adyar Katte, in front of Adyar Panchayat Road, near Somnath Katte garage, Valachil, Valachil Kukkuda Katte, in front of Yashaswi Hall, near Arukla mini bridge, Farangipet, near police outpost at Farangipet, Maripalla, near Thumbe School, and in front of Thumbe Mahalingeshwar temple.

The release said illegal connection has been found in one of the pipelines supplying water to pumphouses at Bendoorwell and Panambur. The pipes are 1 m in diameter. Each pipeline pumps 18 MGD (million gallons per day) of water to the city.
