MCC officials seize motor pumps

April 28, 2012 02:04 pm | Updated 02:04 pm IST - MANGALORE:

Officials of the Mangalore City Corporation raided a commercial complex at Kankanady on Friday and seized four pumps which were allegedly being used to draw water directly from the supply lines to the complex.

K.S. Linge Gowda, Assistant Executive Engineer (water supply) at the corporation, told The Hindu that when they drew water through pumps people in the locality did not get water.

The pumps with one horse power capacity were used in Bhoomika Plaza.

He said that following complaints from people in the locality that they were not getting water, the officials wanted to find out why it was happening though water was being released there.

There was no leakage in the supply lines. Later, it was found that it was the result of pumps being connected directly to some supply lines in the complex. Water supply to five supply lines in the plaza was disconnected, he said.

Mr. Gowda said that a resident Jagannath Rao near Marigudi at Bolara was using the same method to draw water directly from the supply line. The motor used by him was seized and water supply was disconnected to his house on Friday.
