A hotel at Kankanady reportedly owes Rs. 2.70 lakh as water bill to the Mangalore City Corporation. A private hostel for students at Shivnagar said to be have been drawing water illegally from the corporation's pipeline for two years.

Unauthorised

They were among four establishments in the city for which officials of the corporation had cut water supply during their continued drive against unauthorised connections and drive on collecting pending bills in the past a few days, according to K.S. Linge Gowda, Assistant Executive Engineer (water supply) in the corporation.

He toldThe Hinduon Thursday that the corporation had cut water supply to Hotel Maya International at Kankanady for not paying Rs. 2.70 lakh water bill since December 16, 2010. He said he would recommend the Health Officer at the corporation to suspend the licence to the hotel if it did not pay up.

Illegal

Water supply to a private hostel at Shivnagar had been cut as it had been drawing water illegally. Another private hostel at Pandeshwar owed the corporation Rs. 58,772 since December 16, 2010. Water supply to it had been cut.

Mr. Gowda said water supply to an Moohamba Ice Plant at Baikampady had been cut as it had been drawing water illegally.
