Mayor Kavita Sanil has been accused of assaulting wife and child of a watchman of the apartment she lives in Bejai here. The Mayor has, however, said that a tussle between children is being blown out of proportion, that too with the support of Opposition political parties.

In a complaint filed at the Women Police Station here on Friday, 25-year-old Kamala said that Ms. Sanil on Thursday night barged into her accommodation and gave a sound thrashing to her after dragging her out. In the mêlée, her two-year-old son was pushed aside, she said.

Ms. Kamala told a news channel that during Deepavali (on October 20) celebrations, Ms. Sanil’s six-year-old daughter had thrashed her seven-year-old son who was watching crackers being burst near the apartment.

As she had questioned the girl about the incident, Ms. Sanil assaulted her on Thursday, she alleged.

Denying the allegations, Ms. Sanil told reporters that she had only warned Kamala on Thursday evening that she would file a police complaint for chasing her daughter out of the apartment. She did not assault Kamala, she said and accused BJP councillor Roopa D. Bangera of instigating Kamala to file a complaint against her.

For court

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Hanumantharaya said that as offence alleged was a non-cognisable one, it will be referred to the jurisdictional magistrate court on Saturday.

The police will act as per the orders of the magistrate, he said.
