Mannagudda school plans big centenary bash

The Government Higher Primary School, Mannagudda, here, will observe its centenary celebrations on December 28 and 29.

The school was established on June 13, 1913. It was being managed by Bassel Mission till 1924. Later, it was under the control of the then Mangalore city municipality till October 1969. The government took over the school in November, 1969.

According to the agenda for centenary celebrations announced on Wednesday, functions will be conducted at Kambla Cross Maidan (near Ullal Nursing Home) from 6 p.m. on both the days to celebrate the school completing 100 years. On the first day, a souvenir, ‘Shatasuma’, will be released. Later, retired teachers of the school will be felicitated. It will be followed by cultural programmes by students and alumni of the school. There will be a Tulu comedy show. A Tulu play titled ‘Elya Vishaya Malla Malpodchi’ by artistes of Lakumi theatre group will be staged in evening of December 29.

As a prelude to the centenary celebrations, different competitions will be conducted on November 27, December 1 and December 15.
