A student of Manipal University drowned at the Arabian Sea at Malpe beach here on Sunday.

According to the Malpe police, three students from Manipal University had gone to Malpe beach at 4.30 p.m. on Sunday evening. One of them Abhishek Agnihotri (19), a student of first year BBM course, got into the sea water. Suddenly at around 5.30 p.m., he got caught in high waves of the beach and was drowned. Since the two others did not know swimming, they informed the police on the beach.

The police and fishermen managed to get Abhishek out of the sea and rushed him to a hospital in Udupi, where he was pronounced dead by the doctors. A case of unnatural death had been registered at Malpe police station, the police said. The student hails from Bisoli village near Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh. The body is being flown to Lucknow on Tuesday, police said.
