As part of the four-day programme commemorating the first Foundation Day of Manipal School of Architecture and Planning (MSAP), a workshop on “National programme for capacity building of architects in earthquake risk management” was inaugurated by Pro-Chancellor of Manipal University H.S. Ballal here on Wednesday.
Shailesh Kumar Agarwal, Executive Director, Building Materials and Technology Promotion Council (BMTPC), New Delhi, spoke about the extent to which the Indian subcontinent was prone to earthquakes. The Central Building Research Institute started organising workshops such as this one, he said.
He said many colleges took initiative to hold such workshops but only a few sustained it. He lauded MSAP for conducting the workshop systematically.
Dr. Ballal said the university conducted workshops and programmes systematically and provided the best infrastructure in every field.
Architects and engineers from Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts participated in the workshop.
Director of MSAP N.K. Garg welcomed the gathering. P.N. Subramani, observer from Karnataka State Disaster Management Authority, Bangalore, and Virendra Kumar Paul, professor in School of Architecture and Planning, New Delhi, were present.
