Piyush Agarwal, the Divisional Railway Manager of Southern Railway’s Palghat Division, said reservation counters at the Mangalore Central Railway Station will be increased after completion of the process of augmentation of staff in the Palghat division.
Speaking to The Hindu on Thursday, Mr. Agarwal said the construction of second foot overbridge at the Mangalore Central station was on and it would be completed shortly.
Mr. Agarwal said the division has planned to operate two more Jan Sadharan Ticket Booking Sewak counters at the K.S. Rao Road and near the Town Hall in Mangalore.
On the lack of shelter covering the entire platforms of the busy Mangalore Junction railway station, Mr. Agarwal said a number of small shelters were being laid at different stations in the Palghat division.
Under each shelter eight persons could sit.
Such shelters could be considered for Mangalore Junction.
However, Mr. Agarwal did not specify as to when the work would be taken up.
“We are well aware of the problems that the commuters are facing (in Mangalore Junction),” he said.
Earlier, Mr. Agarwal inaugurated the play on unmanned level-crossing by the members of Southern Railway State Bharat Scouts and Guides Palghat division.
The play was staged at the entrance to the Mangalore Central Station.
The play failed to attract much attention as it was staged in Malayalam.
“We will consider staging such plays in the local language,” Mr. Agarwal added
