Mangalore University will set up a university industry interaction centre on its campus. It will also constitute a Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Board and a research committee. All of them will be in place within a month, according to Vice-Chancellor T. C. Shivashankara Murthy.
He informed the Academic Council meeting on Friday that the university industry interaction centre would be set up to strengthen the ongoing research and academic activities.
The centre would have a director, four experts with two representatives from industry, student representatives and an advisory committee.
Prof. Murthy said the Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Board would be headed by a director who would be a senior professor having expertise in university administration, planning and preparation of proposals. The board would plan the academic courses, research programmes, inter-disciplinary activities, interaction with outside agencies for training, extension and research.
The Vice-Chancellor said the university has already constituted a statute on constituting the board. The Governor has approved the statute framed under Karnataka State Universities Act, 2000. The board would be a 12-member body.
He said that the director of the board would also head a research committee to be constituted. “The committee will be constituted for giving impetus for research,” he said.
CCTVs to be installed
Prof. Murthy told the meeting that 74 closed circuit television cameras (CCTV) would be installed on the university campus shortly to step up security. The process of inviting bids for installing the cameras was on.
The council approved the draft statute governing the establishment of schools of studies in Mangalore University.
According to it seven schools of studies would be set up. They are schools of languages and literature; life sciences; physical sciences; mathematical and computational sciences; social sciences; education and management studies.
