Mangalore University is all set to launch Wi-Fi facility at its Mangalagangothri campus from Saturday.
Nalin Kumar Kateel, Member of Parliament, Dakshina Kannada will inaugurate the facility in the campus at 10 a.m. on March 28. Vice-Chancellor K. Byrappa will preside over the launching programme, a release said.
It is one of the efforts to take the university to global standards by providing students and teachers modern communication facilities, the release said.
The service is provided through two independent Internet service providers (ISPs). One is through NKN which is high speed connection of up to 1 Gbps (Gigabit per second) and the other through 10 Mbps leased line from the BSNL. Entire campus is configured as a set of Virtual Local area networks (VLAN).
Security is the major concern in Wi-Fi usage. Adequate security – both for connectivity to Wi-Fi network and to the data transferred over the air have been ensured. The user is allowed to access only through the registered mobile device, where MAC id (media access control address) of the device shall be the identifying feature. Additionally user has to authenticate using the user name and password assigned to him, it said.
