Man sells his baby for Rs. 2,000

The police have arrested a man for allegedly buying a child for Rs. 2,000 on Saturday from the child's father, who is reported to be absconding. The child has been restored to its mother Lakshmi.

Inspector Kalavati, Women's Police Station, Pandeshwar, said they arrested Anwar for buying the child from its father Ravi alias Khanandan on Friday.

She said that Anwar was arrested from his house in Bolar. Lakshmi and her husband who hail from Hassan, came to Mangalore a month ago in search of work. They then are construction workers. The police said that Ms. Lakshmi and the child are now under the care of the Child Welfare Committee.

A case has been registered under Section 317, which relates to exposure and abandonment of child less than 12 years by parent or guardian. Ms. Lakshmi had filed a complaint with police regarding this.

Harassment

Kishori Rao has filed a complaint with the Venoor police against the relatives of her husband Satyendra Rao for harassing her and her husband for dowry.

According to the complaint, the accused Ramachandra Rao, Indumathi Rao, and Rajendra Rao allegedly trespassed into her house at Nittede village on August 25 and assaulted her, her husband.
