A 35-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly assaulting a 16-year-old girl and outraging her modesty at her house in Panambur police station limits

The police said the accused reportedly barged into his neighbour’s house early on Sunday and tried to pull the girl, who was sleeping with her family members. The girl screamed and her mother interfered. The man reportedly left the house threatening the girl and her mother of harming them if they reported the matter to the police.

The girl and her mother filed a complaint with the police on Sunday evening. The police arrested the 35-year-old on Monday night for offence under Section 354 of the Indian Penal Code and under Sections 7 and 8 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. He was produced before the jurisdictional magistrate court, which remanded him in judicial custody for 15 days.

Man assaults minor

A case of alleged sexual assault was reported from Kasbe Bengre on Tuesday. A father of two children is said to have sexually assaulted a minor girl in his neighbourhood. The police have arrested the accused based on the complaint of the girl.

Student kills self

A 17-year-old college student committed suicide by hanging at her house at Upralli village in Kundapur taluk coming under Byndoor police station limits on Tuesday.

The Byndoor police said Supreeta S. Poojary (17), a II PU student of R.N. Shetty College in Kundapur had killed herself on Tuesday afternoon. Though she wrote a suicide letter, there was no clear reason in the letter, which indicated that she was upset at someone scolding her, the police said.

Arrest in murder case

The Kavoor police have arrested Chetan for his alleged involvement in the murder of 30-year-old Bharat, a person involved in some murder cases, in Moodshedde on July 11. With this the police have so far arrested four persons in connection with the murder.
