Four persons reportedly hacked to death a 30-year-old man, allegedly involved in a few cases of murder, in Shivanagar in Moodushedde on the outskirts of the city on Friday evening.

According to eyewitness accounts, Bharat (30) was walking towards his house in Moodushedde where he has been living for the past three days. The four persons reportedly followed Bharat in two motorcycles and stopped him near Shubhodaya School. Bharat was hit on his head, chest and legs with swords around 4.30 p.m. The assailants left the place as Bharat started screaming for help.

Residents rushed Bharat to the Government Wenlock Hospital, where he was declared dead around 5.30 p.m.

The police said that Bharat, a tender coconut seller on Car Street here, was one of the four accused in the murder of Kadlekai Manju, also a person involved in murder cases in Mangalore North Police Station limits in 2010. Guru, an associate of Bharat in Manju’s murder, was hacked to death last year.

Police Commissioner R. Hithendra, who visited the spot, said that the former associates of Kadlekai Manju could be involved in Bharat’s murder. In a complaint, Bharat’s father has accused Shailesh, an associate of Kadlekai Manju, of murdering his son. Bharat was a bachelor, the police said. Meanwhile, the police cordoned off the place where Bharat was found dead.
