Man arrested for killing brother in property feud

March 22, 2013 09:34 am | Updated 09:34 am IST - Udupi:

A man killed his younger brother over a property dispute at Innanje village near Kaup in Udupi district on Wednesday.

According to the district police, Shankar (48), an alcoholic, used to harass his elder brother Srinivas demanding his share in the ancestral property. On Wednesday, Shankar picked up a quarrel with Srinivas, who allegedly hit a heavily-drunk brother on the head with a stick, leading to his instant death.

Srinivas called the 108 ambulance service, who reached the scene only after two-and-a-half hours. The paramedical staff in the ambulance said that Shankar had already died. Srinivas then summoned another ambulance and took the body to the District Government Hospital in Udupi, only to be declared brought dead. Police said Srinivas lied to doctors that his brother fell off a tree.

However, the police sensed foul play and nabbed Srinivas. A case has been registered at the Kaup police station based on a complaint by Lakshmi, sister of the two brothers.
