The Udupi-based J.J. Cine Productions finished shooting scenes of its upcoming Kannada film Mahanadi related to Mangalore here on Thursday. The scenes were related to a song sequence which was shot in a hotel at Jeppinamogaru for the last three days.

Film director Krishnappa Uppoor told presspersons on Wednesday that film crew shot scenes of an “item” song that involved Scarlet, a British national who makes a guest appearance in the film. Choreographer Chinni Prakash guided Scarlet and the dancers from Mumbai. With the shooting in Mangalore, the unit has finished 49 days of shooting. “We have completed 70 per cent of the shooting,” he said. The second schedule of film shooting would begin from August first week, he added.

Mahanadi, Mr. Uppoor said, was a film revolving on the life of fisherwoman. “I have linked her life with that of a river that involves many twists and turns. This is a heroine-centric film,” he said.

Actor Sanjana plays the role of fisherwoman Meenakshi. There are several twists in the film after Meenkashi marries a Mumbai boy, which is played by actor Dileepraj. “You see the lead character in the role of a girl, a wife, and also a mother,” said Mr. Uppoor, who has written the screenplay and dialogues. Mr. Uppoor’s earlier films Kanchilda Baale and Maribale , both in Tulu, had been acclaimed by the State and the Centre.

Mr. Uppoor said the film unit had shot scenes in Keni, a village near Ankola in Uttara Kannada district. It had also shot in places such as Hodi Bengre, Udupi, Manipal, and Kasaragod.
