Lokayukta P. Vishwanatha Shetty on Friday warned activists against filing complaints without substance only to harass bureaucracy.

At a public hearing at Town Hall, he said that the Lokayukta office has learnt that some activists file complaints before his office for financial gains by harassing officials. Some complaints are filed just to create nuisance. Hence the office of Lokayukta was also checking the background of some Right to Information (RTI) activists.

He said that if some complaints are found to be not genuine, the Lokayukta would take appropriate action against the complainants. The Lokayukta also asked officials to provide hassle-free service to people. He said that he would take complaints on accepting bribe seriously and order investigation depending on cases. At the same time he asked people not to entice officials to get their works done at the earliest or on priority.
