Lokayukta P. Vishwanatha Shetty paid a surprise visit to the District Government Hospital here on Saturday. He visited different wards of the hospital and checked their working and interacted with the patients.

Later, he told presspersons that the hospital lacked basic facilities and faced staff shortage.

‘No complaints’

‘But the patients had no complaints about the services rendered by doctors. In a government hospital, a doctor worked under tremendous pressure as he/she had to see about 100 patients daily, he said.

The government hospital here had not much development in the last five decades. It needed to be upgraded. He would send his recommendations about the improvements required in the hospital to the State government, he said.

When presspersons queried him on the delay in starting all services at the newly constructed Government Maternity and Children’s Hospital, Mr. Shetty said that he would not make any statement on it.

He would study the issue fully and then decide on it.

Lokayukta instiution

On strengthening the Lokayukta institution, Mr. Shetty said that he had not gone around seeking more powers. It was for the government to decide on it.

But he had been putting his maximum efforts for the smooth and effective functioning of the Lokayukta institution, he said.
