Life imprisonment for rape of elderly woman

The sixth Additional District and Sessions Judge S.H. Pushpanjali Devi on Tuesday sentenced a 25-year-old labourer to life on finding him guilty of sexually assaulting a 69-year-old woman.

According to charge sheet, the Mangalore Rural police accused 25-year-old Nagesh, the accused, of dragging the woman, who was alone in the house, to a corner and raping her in Alape on July 13, 2013. He was also charged of robbing the woman of her gold ornaments and Rs. 5,000.

The Judge convicted Nagesh for rape, robbery and trespass. The judge has imposed fine of Rs.12,000 which will be given as compensation to the old woman after it is deposited.
