Forest department personnel have caught a leopard in Chennaittody village in Bantwal taluk on Thursday.
According to Assistant Conservator of Forests V. Kishore Kumar, the department had received complaint about loss of cattle and hen because of the leopard that stole into farms in the village. A week ago they laid a trap in the farm of Madhava, a local resident, which the wild cat frequently visited.
On Thursday morning the leopard was found inside the trap. Mr. Kumar said the leopard was found to be healthy and had been moved to the Kudremukh Wildlife Sanctuary area.
Ullal police on Thursday found 12 cattle in a pickup van in Chembugudde. According to the police, the Bangalore-registered van that carried the cattle hit an electricity pole. People, who gathered at the site, called the police. By the time they reached the spot, driver of the van escaped. The police said some of the cattle were milking cows.
On Wednesday Ullal police rescued seven cattle from Millathnagar. The cows have been moved to a care centre on a magistrate’s direction.
New born dead
A newborn child was found dead by the riverside in Talapady on Thursday. Ullal police said passers-by noticed the male baby and informed the Talapady Panchayat members. The police have not found any claimants for the child.
