Malekudiyas at Kutlur, identified as a Maoist-affected area in the Western Ghats in Belthangady Taluk, poured out their grievances, including a demand to repair a road, when a team of officials led by the Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim visited them on Wednesday.

An official told The Hindu that they demanded that the Kakkunje Cross-Alamba road be repaired for which the Forest Department’s permission was needed. The Deputy Commissioner instructed the Department officials to take the necessary steps.

They complained that some of the solar lights given to them required repairs for which the Deputy Commissioner issued necessary instructions. Mr. Ibrahim asked the tahsildar to examine if it was possible to provide an electricity connection to them from the grid.

Some of them said that five families which have come out of the Kudremukh National Park area have not received the full compensation and they have not got government sites.

The Deputy Commissioner directed the tahsildar to survey the government land available near Sulkeri and hand it over to them by issuing title deeds.

Superintendent of Police Sharanappa S.D. was also part of the team which listened to their grievances till noon.
