The Manipal Haemophilia Society and Kasturba Hospital will organise a kite flying festival at the End Point here on Saturday.
It is aimed at creating public awareness about haemophilia and raising funds for patients registered with the society,
In a press release issued here on Saturday, president of the society Annamma Kurien said, “.
As most of the patients are poor, the society helps them by providing subsidised treatment and rehabilitation for joint deformity.”
Stating that the treatment was very expensive, she said the proceeds of the sale of kites would be used for treatment. “It costs more than Rs 10,000 for an injection given to a patient when the person starts bleeding,” she said.
Kites released
The kites, specially brought from Gujarat, were formally released for sale on Saturday by Pro-Chancellor of Manipal University H.S. Ballal to mark the World Haemophilia Day. A set, comprising two kites, a spool and a lucky dip coupon, is priced at Rs. 100 each, It is sponsored by Wedding Palace, Udupi. The lucky draw is on April 30. “Asha Kiran 2010”, a camp for Haemophilia patients and their families, conducted by the society free of cost, will begin on April 30 and conclude on May 2.
Camp
About 100 people are expected to attend the camp, which will be held T.A. Pai English Medium High School, Kunjibettu. The camp is supported by the Manipal University and Kasturba Hospital.
