Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday favoured integration of different systems of medicine — Alopathy, Ayhurveda, Naturopathy, Homeopathy and Unani — at one hospital and providing the best suitable treatment to a patient.
He was delivering the convocation address of SDM College of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences, Ujire at Dharmasthala near here. Information about different systems of medicine should be made available in every hospital and the patient should have the freedom to choose the system that suits him the best, he said.
He called upon Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari D. Veerendra Heggade to initiate such a facility, perhaps the first of its kind in the world. An ardent follower of Yoga and Naturopathy, Mr. Kejriwal said every system of medicine has its own effective treatment systems. The doctors should be able to take the history of the patient and render the required treatment, he suggested.
Mr. Kejriwal urged them not to resort to money making through illegal means. He asked them to render service with integrity and a spend portion of their income for social service. Mr. Kejriwal said doctors would have to face several problems and challenges in the professional front; they have to face them with self confidence.
Minister for Health and Family Welfare U.T. Khader said the government is attempting to popularise the Indian systems of medicine through the tourism department. Ayush centres would be opened in all district hospitals and so far 10 have been opened, he said. Mr. Heggade announced that such an information-cum-service centre would soon be opened in Delhi and sought complete cooperation from Mr. Kejriwal for the initiative.
