Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP, on Thursday led the hunger strike of BJP activists to highlight the disruption of the 23-day Budget session by Opposition parties in the Lok Sabha. The strike was in response to the call given by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is also on a fast today.

Mr. Kateel and other activists held the demonstration before the Mahatma Gandhi statue near Town Hall. Ganesh Karnik, MLC; N. Yogish Bhat, former MLA; and Monappa Bhandary, former MLC; took part.

Mr. Kateel blamed the Congress for the disruption of the Budget session of the Parliament. “Congress did not want to discuss issues related to Cauvery. It was also not ready to deliberate on issues related to the rights of backward classes. It only wanted the disruption of Parliament proceedings, which has costed the State’s exchequer,” he alleged.

Mr. Kateel said he and other BJP MPs have given undertaking to authorities to forgo salaries and allowances for 23 days.

A couple of singers sang bhajans during the protest.

A flying squad of the Election Commission from the Manglauru City South Assembly Constituency watched the proceedings.
