Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president G. Parameshwara said on Monday that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had assured to release Rs. 10 crore to rejuvenate the Brahmavar Cooperative Sugar Factory in Udupi district.
He was speaking at the Executive Committee meeting of the Udupi District Congress Committee (UDCC).
Mr. Parameshwara had promised to provide Rs. 60 crore for rejuvenation of the Brahmavar Sugar Factory during the valedictory of Congress “padayatra” at Malpe in February this year, if the Congress party came to power in the State. He said that the issue was discussed with Mr. Siddaramaiah on Sunday and the Chief Minister said Rs. 10 crore would be released for the factory.
“I will talk to the local Congress leaders on further measures required to revive the factory,” Mr. Parameshwara said.
The State government was prioritising the interests of the farmers. Since “Kole Roga” or Mahali disease had led to widespread damage of arecanut plantations in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts, the State government had released Rs. 20 crore as compensation for the areca growers.
“We are also trying to get additional compensation for the arecanut growers from the Union government,” he said.
Of the 198 promises made by the Congress party during the Assembly elections, Mr. Siddaramaiah had already fulfilled 68 in his recent budget, Mr. Parameshwara said.
Despite misleading propaganda by Opposition parties, Mr. Parameshwara said, the Congress would campaign on the basis of the achievements of the United Progressive Alliance government in the last five years.
