Karnataka BJP sees conspiracy behind sleaze video

March 29, 2013 01:07 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 10:07 pm IST - Udupi:

The Bharatiya Janata Party said on Thursday that the scandalous ‘sex CD’ aired by some news channels was a political conspiracy against the party.

The black and white video purportedly features Udupi MLA Raghupati Bhat with a woman in a bed. The veracity of the CD or the claim is not yet established.

Udaykumar Shetty, president of district unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), dismissed the video as ‘fake’ and demanded an inquiry to bring out the truth. “This is a conspiracy hatched by our political enemies,” he told The Hindu over phone from Bangalore. When asked to name “political enemies”, Mr. Shetty said: “We do not know who it is. It will be known only after an inquiry is held.”

Candidate for Udupi

He said the district unit of the BJP would discuss the issue of a candidate for the Udupi Assembly constituency in a couple of days as Mr. Bhat has backed out. There are two-three names which are being considered. A decision could be expected in a couple of days, he said.

Asked if the party was likely to field Shantha V. Acharya, wife of late V.S. Acharya as reported in a section of the media, Mr. Shetty said: “Ms. Acharya is in the United States now and I cannot say anything on the issue.”
