Kalladka peaceful but tense: police

Two shops suffered damage in Surikumeru in Vittal police station limits after it was set on fire allegedly by a few miscreants on Sunday night.

Kalladka town and its adjoining areas in Bantwal taluk, which were said to be returning to normality, were under tight police vigilance on Tuesday.

Orders prohibiting movement of people in groups have been clamped till Tuesday. “We have deployed force in the area. The situation so far is peaceful though tense,” said Additional Superintendent of Police T.P. Shivakumar.

The shops of Abdul Aziz and Haneef were set ablaze on Sunday midnight.

Abdul Aziz has been admitted to hospital after he reported discomfort seeing the fire. Mr. Shivakumar said police have registered a case under Section 436 (mischief by fire or explosive substance with an intent to destroy house, etc) of the Indian Penal Code.

Four cases have been registered at the Bantwal Town Police in connection with disturbance in Kalladaka and three persons have been arrested.
