Kala Coast to hold music festival in Karje

It will be inaugurated by Shubha Mudgal and Aneesh Pradhan

Kala Coast will be conducting a two-day music festival at Karje village near Brahmavar from January 31. Addressing presspersons here, Sudhir Nayak, member of the organising committee of the Kala Coast Music Festival, said the programme would begin with a procession from Guddeyangadi to Kala Coast village at 3 p.m. on January 31.

The festival would be inaugurated by noted musicians Shubha Mudgal and Aneesh Pradhan.

The inaugural would be followed by the singing of Abhangs, Bharud and Jogwa by Alandi troupe from Pune.

The day’s programme would conclude with a Yakshagana puppetry show by Bhaskar Kogga Kamath and his troupe at 6.30 p.m.

The second day’s programme would begin with ‘Bhagvat Keertan’ by Pavan Bhat, accompanied by Manoj Acharya on the tabla at 7 a.m. This would be followed by ‘Dhrupad-Dhamar’ by Chintan Upadhyay accompanied by Sukhad Munde on the pakhawaj.

There would be a Jaltarang recital by Siddhesh Bicholkar with Vighnesh Kamath on the tabla at 9.30 a.m.

This would be followed by a tabla jugalbandi by Siddharth Padiyar and Dhaivat Mehta with Dyaneshwar Sonawane on the harmonium at 10 a.m.

Sahana Banerjee would give a sitar recital with Aneesh Pradhan on the tabla at 11 a.m.

This would be followed by a Khayal vocal recital. There would be a harmonium rendition by Unmesh Khaire with Abhimanyu Herlekar on the tabla at 3.30 p.m. This would be followed by a ‘Bhavgeet’ and ‘Bhakti Geet’ at 4.30 p.m.

The festival would conclude with a Yakshagana performance at 6.30 p.m.

The programmes at the festival will be dedicated to eminent musicians, artistes and litterateurs such as Kota Shivaram Karanth, Sant Bhadragiri Achyutdas, B.S. Rao, Pandit Madhav Bhat, Pandit Taranath Rao and Pandit Mangeshnath Govekar.

Nearly 3,000 music lovers from the State and neighbouring States such as Maharashtra, Gujarat and Kerala were expected to attend the festival, Mr. Nayak said.
