On May 26, two youth had shot at Suresh Bhandary, who escaped unhurt

The police are yet to make headway in the case of firing near Kadri Park on May 26, in which a builder was the target.

Commissioner of Police Seemant Kumar Singh said the investigation so far has given definite clues about involvement of local people in the incident. “We are yet to achieve a breakthrough,” he said.

The police were looking into new leads and hope to find the culprits, he added. The firing occurred around 7 p.m. on May 26. Two youth wearing helmets fired at the car just as Suresh Bhandary of Prithvi Builders, Karangalpady, returned to his car after his evening walk in the park. The bullet was shot from a country pistol and it hit the bottom portion of right rear door. Mr. Bhandary, his wife, and daughter escaped unhurt.

The police suspected involvement of underworld operator Bannanje Raja in the incident as Mr. Bhandary had received a call from Raja two years ago demanding extortion of Rs. 2 crore. The police ruled out this angle as Mr. Bhandary had not received any calls from Bannanje Raja prior to the incident. However, as an offshoot of the investigation, the police arrested Pradeep Mendon (29) and A.S. Ravi (27) – said to be associates of Ravi Poojary - who were allegedly extorting a person. The police had recovered a revolver and 10 bullets from the two accused.

But we are yet to find the motive for their murder,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) D. Dharmaiah.

Mr. Singh said the motive for the murder would lead the police to the culprits.
