Chickmagalur police have taken custody of Santosh Das, the prime accused in the theft of idols in a Jain Basadi, in connection with a theft of idols from a temple in Kalasa in 2009.
According to Chickmagalur Superintendent of Police Ravikumar H. Nayak Santosh Das told Mangalore police about the theft of idols and other articles from Kalasheshwara temple in 2009. Mr. Nayak said an antique idol, Rs. 4 lakh-worth gold ornaments and silver articles had been stolen from the temple. The case remained unsolved.
Following admission of Mr. Das before Mangalore police, the Chickmagalur police was taking his custody for further investigation of the case. Mr. Das told Mangalore police about having stolen idols from nine different places in the State. The Chickmagalur police have taken custody of Mr. Das for 10 days, Mr. Nayak said.
Three injured
Three persons in a small truck were injured after it hit a Dharmasthala-bound KSRTC bus near Punjalkatte on Wednesday. Punjalkatte police said the tempo bound to B.C. Road overtook a vehicle and hit the bus head on. Some passengers in the bus suffered minor injuries and they were treated at a hospital.
Tempo driver Vikas and two other injured persons have been admitted to a private hospital. Movement of vehicles on this busy road leading to Dharmasthala was affected for nearly two hours, the police said.
Hit-and-run
A six-year-old boy suffered injuries on his head and legs after he was hit by a car near Manara Traders Complex in Konaje on Tuesday. According to Konaje police, the car going from Natekal to Konaje hit Mohammed Shahid when the boy was crossing the road. The car driver sped away. Shahid has been admitted to a private hospital.
Missing
Ganesh (33), working in a jewellery shop on Bhavanti Street, has been reported to be missing from his room since October 10. In a complaint filed before Mangalore North police, Ganesh’s brother Gopala Krishna said his brother did not come to work since October 10. When he called his brother’s mobile phone it was switched off. After searching at his friends and relatives’ houses, Mr. Krishna filed a complaint, the police said.
Chain snatching
A woman passenger’s chain was snatched by an unidentified person when her train was leaving Surathkal railway station at 12.45 a.m on October 10. In a complaint to Konkan Railway police, Salgunan T. said he and his wife Premalatha boarded Nethravati Express (Thiruva- nanthapuram-Mumbai Train No: 6346) from Kozhikode to go to Byndoor. Mr. Salgunan finished his work in Byndoor and went to Kozhikode and then lodged a complaint at Konkan Railway police station here on October 16. The value of the 44-gram gold chain is estimated at Rs. 1.2 lakh. A case had been registered and investigations were on, the police said.
