Pramod Madhwaraj, MLA, said on Tuesday that the he would make efforts to increase the annual insurance coverage under the Chief Minister’s Arogya Card for families of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes from the present Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 50,000 next year.

He was speaking at a function organized by the Udupi City Municipal Council (CMC) to distribute Arogya Cards to the beneficiaries of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes communities, here.

CMC meeting

Mr. Madhwaraj said that though various facilities had been provided to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, more measures required to be taken for their welfare.

The CMC should hold a meeting with the representatives of the Scheduled Castes and Tribes, so that the elected representatives and officials had a better idea of their needs. This would help in formulating better schemes and projects suited to their needs.

As many as 4,049 below poverty line (BPL) cards had been distributed to eligible beneficiaries in Udupi Assembly constituency over the last six months. Nearly 3,000 BPL cards would be distributed in December in the constituency, Mr. Madhwaraj said.
