“Roof of the central market building where we sell flowers is leaking. Please repair it,” a merchant complained.
“Toilet door has no bolt from inside. How should we use it?” asked a woman.
If one said: “There is no proper water supply to the market building,” another merchant said: “Do not allow unauthorised persons to sell vegetables on the road side outside the market building.”
Complaints such as these were made by the merchants in the central market here with the elected representatives at the annual meeting of the Central Market Merchants Association on Sunday.
The complaints were made after K. Revathi, chairperson of the Standing Committee for Taxation, Finance, and Appeals of the city corporation council, asked the women merchants in the market whether the toilet facility was proper there.
N. Yogish Bhat, MLA, said that a bore well had been sunk near the market. Once it was energised, water problem would be solved. He said he would ensure that it was energised in the next 15 days. In addition, the existing drinking water pipeline in the central market was being connected to the new water supply lines to supply more quantity of water, he said.
Mr. Bhat directed Deputy Mayor Rajani Dugganna to get the problems related to the toilet facility, leaking roof addressed within a week. Otherwise, he would himself attend to them after a fortnight as he would be out of the city for a few days, he said.
Surekha Srinivas, councillor, central market ward, said that the corporation had prepared a blue print to construct a new market building. The proposal was awaiting Government’s approval, she said.
Mr. Bhat said that he had asked the new Commissioner of the corporation, S.M. Vijayapraksh, to resolve the issue related to selling of vegetables by unauthorised persons outside the market building.
