The local magistrate court in Moodbidri on Friday remanded Diptimayee Mohanty and Digambar Mohanty, arrested in connection with the theft of antique idols from a Jain Basadi, in police custody for 15 days.

The Moodbidri police on Thursday sought custody of the duo for interrogation. The court allowed the request but directed the police not to cause any harm to the accused persons. It has also asked police to bring 10-month old child of Diptimayee from Bhuvaneshwar, and reunite them.

Diptimayee, wife of the prime suspect Santosh Das, and her father Mr. Digambar were arrested for their alleged involvement in the theft of 15 idols from Guru Basadi premises on July 5 night. The police have recovered three idols and 1 kg of gold blocks from the house of Santosh Das, who is still at large.
