After Congress’s flip-flop over the induction of advocate Dinaker Shetty, an accused in the 2009 pub attack, he has vowed to support the party as well as B. Janardhan Poojary.
On Monday the Congress had inducted him into the party only to later revoke the decision.
“I am ready to still work for the party,” he told presspersons on Wednesday.
Responding to Mr. Poojary’s comment that the Congress would not tolerate atrocities against women and that the party had erred in allowing him to join, Mr. Shetty said he never committed atrocities against women. “These statements are based on hearsay and (there is) no proof,” he said.
He said his involvement in the pub attack case was confined to just “television statements” and that he was never an office bearer of Sri Ram Sene, nor was he involved in the assault.
“All I did was, as president of the All College Students’ Association, talk to television channels about the increasing trend of taking drugs,” he said.
Charges
He is accused number 29 in the case, charged with making statements that can create hatred between classes (IPC 505(2)) and criminal intimidation (IPC 506) after young women were assaulted in a pub in Mangalore in 2009.
Mr. Shetty said he had not been officially told that he had been expelled.
