Lokayukta P. Vishwanatha Shetty on Friday directed G.S. Hegde, in-charge Regional Transport Officer of Mangaluru, to conduct the transport adalat within a fortnight.
Mr. Shetty gave the direction after hearing a complaint by K. Ashok Bhat during a public hearing at Town Hall.
Mr. Bhat complained that the office of RTO should conduct the adalat regularly once in three months. But it was not being done.
Mr. Hegde told the Lokayukta that Mangaluru office did not have a regular RTO since 2015. In addition, there was staff shortage, which was hampering office works.
Mr. Shetty said that those cannot be held as the reasons for not conducting the adalats regularly.
Asking the official to conduct the adalat within 15 days, the Lokayukta directed that thereafter the adalats should be conducted regularly as per the procedure laid out.
Addressing a complaint by N. Sadashiva Shetty of Kankanady regarding a neighbour constructing a building abutting his house without leaving the set back required, the Lokayutka directed that the Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada should get it inspected and submit a report to the Lokayukta within four weeks from now.
Robert Franklin Rego, a resident of Bajpe drew attention on the traffic issues in Bajpe.
Responding to it T.R. Suresh, Police Commissioner, said that police are aware of the issues.
Mangaluru Police Commissionerate would request the government to sanction a separate traffic station to Bajpe as presently Bajpe station which dealt with law and order also addressed traffic issues.
Activist B.S. Hasanabba complained that Mangaluru City Corporation has not built any bus shelter between Government Lady Goschen Hospital and Light House Hill.
The Lokayukta gave six weeks to the corporation to attend to it and respond.
As many as 104 complaints were filed by 1 p.m. for the public hearing. Of them 32 complaints were disposed of on Friday.
The Lokayukta said that he would hear the remaining complaints on December 4 as a majority of the complaints had been filed either on Thursday or Friday. Hence officials required sometime to respond.
