Have documents if carrying cash above Rs. 50,000

The Returning Officer for Dakshina Kannada Lok Sabha constituency A.B. Ibrahim said here on Friday that any individual carrying cash above Rs. 50,000 should produce documents for the source of money when checked by the Election Commission officials. Otherwise, the cash will be seized.

Addressing presspersons after meeting representatives of political parties, he said that banks should report to the Election Commission expenditure observer here about any cash transactions above Rs. 1 lakh.

Voters’ list

He said that the final voters’ list in electronic form would be ready by March 26. It would take some days for printing it. Additional Returning Officer B. Sadashiva Prabhu said the final voters’ list in the print form would be available for voters’ to see by the end of this month. It is expected to be available online by then.

He said that details of expenses in the shadow election expenditure register (in which Election Commission officials record the expenditure of candidates and parties by their own official intelligence inputs) was accessible to people. An applicant would have to pay Rs. 1 per page and for a compact disc (CD) of video recording, he would have to pay Rs. 300.

Women officials

Mr. Ibrahim said that this time the Election Commission informed that women on duty should not be sent to far away places. Replying to questions from representatives of political parties, he said that non-resident Indians (NRIs) were not allowed to vote.

When a Congress representative asked if the party could distribute food to its 1,000 workers for an internal meeting of its workers at Town Hall on March 24, the Deputy Commissioner said he would get back to the party after consulting the Election Commission as he wanted to know the nature of the meeting and as the number of participants would be about 1,000 and whether it could be considered as an internal meeting.

To another question, he said that the party could give food to its workers in the small internal meetings provided its account would have to be maintained.

He denied that the allegation of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) that it had been made to run from pillar to post to obtain permission for campaigning in a vehicle.
