Congress to hold primary to select candidate for DK Lok Sabha seat

The Congress’s primary election to select the candidate for the Dakshina Kannada Lok Sabha constituency will be held on March 9. In-charge president of the District Congress Committee Ibrahim Kodijal told The Hindu that the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee confirmed the date.

Party observer and All India Congress Committee Secretary Pramod Nair is expected to reach here on Saturday to announce the details of the primary and to guide party functionaries on the process of the internal election. “We will get all the details tomorrow,” Mr. Kodijal said on Friday.

Party sources said the former MLC and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee Secretary L. Hanumanthaiah was also likely to oversee the election.

The primaries are said to be the idea of Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi.

Contenders Harsha Moily and senior party leader B. Janardhana Poojary, whose name was recommended by the district unit for the party ticket, decided to take their respective cases to the party high command in New Delhi, with the four-time MP describing the challenge from the rookie as a “war”.

Preparation from today

The Congress sources said the preparations for the primary would commence only on Saturday after getting the guidelines for the primary from the AICC observer.
