Govindacharya opposes pro-West policies

October 01, 2013 12:30 pm | Updated June 02, 2016 04:20 pm IST - MANGALORE:

Chairman of Save Democracy Front and former BJP ideologue K.N. Govindacharya said on Monday that both the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and United Progressive Alliance (UPA) have followed pro-rich and pro-West policies.

Addressing presspersons in Mangalore the political activist said the political and economic policies of the NDA and UPA had come in the way of development of the country.

There was a need for a radical change in policies that the nation is pursuing, he said. Welcoming the move by the Supreme Court allowing electorates to register their ‘none of the above’ vote in elections, Govindacharya demanded that Election Commission of India (ECI) initiate steps to implement this in EVMs from the coming assembly elections.

Jagadish Shettigar, spokesperson of the Front and economic adviser to the former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee slammed a move by the Union government to nullify the effect of the SC judgement barring convicted persons from contesting elections. Both of them addressed a gathering at the Town Hall later.
