The five-day course in diamond grading offered by Gemology Institute of America (GIA), the world's foremost authority on diamonds and colour stones, concluded here on Friday.

According to a release from Manipal University on Saturday, the course benefited students of Manipal Institute of Jewellery Management (MIJM) as it was a rare exposure for them.

Speaking at the valedictory function of the course, Managing Director of GIA (India and Middle East) Nirupa Pandya highlighted the international validity of the course for all those seeking a career in the gem and jewellery industry.

She assured the students of providing more such courses in future and to extend all help to hone their skills. “Training in such lab-oriented courses will provide a competitive edge to the students in jewellery industry. This foundation course provides opportunities for specialisation in gemology and to build a successful career in gem and jewellery industry,” Ms. Pandya said.

The students said they were richer in knowledge of diamond grading.
