The Uppinangady police have arrested four persons in connection with the rape and murder of 22-year-old woman from Nellyadi. The arrest comes after representatives from the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes questioned the Superintendent of Police Labhu Ram about the delay in arresting the accused, in a meeting held on Sunday.

The names of the accused were given as Ramesh (25), Anand (27), and Keshav (29) from Nellyadi village and Eerappa (29) from Koukradi village. The victim left her house on November 6.

When she did not return, her brother filed a complaint. On November 19, the police found her body at Daddlapadige in Porkala Reserve Forest.

Mr. Ram said for a few days the police did not have any clue. Then the police came to know about the illicit relationship that Ramesh had with the victim.

Mr. Ram said that Ramesh drugged the victim and took her to the reserve forest area. Ramesh and other accused raped the victim and then murdered her.
