Four ANF men get President’s medal

Three Anti Naxal Force (ANF) personnel have been conferred with the President’s Police Medal for Gallantry while one ANF officer has been given the medal for meritorious service. This is the first time that serving ANF personnel have been given the President’s Medal.

These three personnel are among the 21 policemen from the State to have been awarded President’s Medal. Deputy Commandant H.Shankar, and Police Constables Naveen G. Naik and B.D. Pradeep have been given the medal for gallantry. They were part of the ANF team involved in a combing operation in Kakkunje Reserve forest area in Dakshina Kannada in which Maoist leader Yellappa alias Dinakar was killed on September 4, 2012.

ANF Assistant Commandant Vishwanath S. has been conferred with the President’s Medal for Meritorious service. He is among the 17 personnel to have been conferred with the medal.

Inspector General of Police Alok Kumar, who then was the Commander of the ANF, said names of three personnel had been recommended in February.
